William Brinker

William "Bill" Brinker William Edwin Brinker, 88, of Atlanta, MI passed away on Friday, October 12, 2012 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 6, 1924 to Capt. Clarence and Sarah (Cahours) Brinker in St Clair, MI. Bill served his country in the US Army in the Military Police, serving in WWII in France and Ireland. He worked as a mail carrier, both walking and rural, in St Clair, MI retiring in 1979 after 30+ years of service. He was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Atlanta, and the was a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the VFW and the Lions Club. Bill enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was working in his vegetable garden, hunting, fishing, or golfing. He also loved to travel. He always loved and enjoyed his children, grand children, and great grandchildren. He had a different nickname for everyone of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bill also spent 10 years between Umping and Coaching Little League Baseball as well. He always had a joke or story to tell, and was known for his singing, even making up songs as he went along. He was always a friendly person, a great conversationalist, and had a smile for everyone. Bill is survived by his wife, Vivian of Atlanta, MI; children, Michael (Ida) Brinker of Lexington, NC, Mary (Gene) Mayhew of Chesterfield, MI, Kevin (Sherri) Brinker of Atlanta, MI, and Nancy (James) Freeland of China Twp, MI; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way; sister, Sally Carriveau of Genesee, MI; and his faithful dog Willy. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane (Kinnee) Brinker; son, William Brinker Jr, and brother, Kenneth "Joe" Brinker. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 15, 2012 at 12:00 PM at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Atlanta, MI, Father Rolando Silva officiating. Visitation hours will be held on Monday morning at the Green Funeral Home, Atlanta, MI from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM when the VFW will provide military honors, before moving to the church for Mass at noon. Interment will take place at St Mary's Catholic Cemetery in St Clair, MI.
