Mr. Vernon "Uncle Jim" L. Shibler, 95 of Atlanta, Michigan died suddenly on February 2, 2020 at his home. He was born in Milan, Michigan on June 6, 1924 to the late, Albert and Margaret (Wernette) Shibler. Uncle Jim was a proud veteran of the United States Navy during World War II. He then joined the National Guard and re-enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the military he worked for the railroad for a short while before moving to Montmorency County. He worked for the Montmorency County Road Commission and retired in 1984. Formerly of Detroit, Uncle Jim resided in Atlanta for the last 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 9489 and also the Atlanta Eagles and the American Legion Post 0393 in Hulbert, Michigan. Uncle Jim loved the outdoors and enjoyed to fish and hunt deer. He loved to socialize with friends and spend time with family. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his brother, John Shibler of St. Mary's, Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Margaret Shibler; brothers, Edward and Robert; sisters, Maxine Lenon; Alberta Fox; and Leona Shibler.
Funeral services for Mr. Shibler will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Green Funeral Home, Atlanta with the Atlanta VFW Post 9489 performing military honors. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until time of service. Interment will take place at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Remus, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Atlanta VFW Post 9489.
