Shirley Valley

Shirley Margaret Valley Mrs. Shirley Margaret Valley, 80 of Atlanta, MI passed away at Back Home Adult Foster Care in Lachine, MI on November 10, 2011. She was born to Frederick and Margaret (Weible) Savage on October 4, 1931 in Flint, MI. She married the late Duane Valley on May 29, 1949 in Hillman, MI. She grew up in Alpena most of her life but enjoyed traveling to Florida. She has lived in Atlanta since early 2004. She was a member of the Big Rock Congregational Church and worked for Dr. Gulden dentistry practice in Alpena as a receptionist for many years, as well as Dr. Hansen in Punta Gorda, FL. She enjoyed picking pudding stones, flower gardens, crafting and shopping, especially for bargains and garage sales. She also liked to redo antiques. Above everything, she enjoyed her time spent with family and friends. She is survived by her son, Bryan (Nona) Valley of Alpena, MI; daughters Carol Banas of Alpena, MI; Valerie (Wayne) Mercer of Port Charlotte, FL; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother, Don (Sally) Savage of Atlanta, MI; and sister, Doris Burris of Atlanta, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Valley and parents, Frederick and Margaret Savage. Funeral services for Mrs. Valley will be held on November 12, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Green Funeral Home, Atlanta, MI, Pastor Keith Jones officiating. Visitation hours will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service. Interment will take place at Briley Twp Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association or Alpena County Humane Society.
