Ruth Elizabeth Schlak Ruth Elizabeth Schlak, 85, of Hillman, MI, passed away on August 3, 2011 at her residence. She was born on December 30, 1925 to Herman and Victoria (Wolters) Strohschein in Montmorency Twp. She has lived in Hillman all her life. Ruth married Robert Schlak on June 16, 1943 in Hawks, MI. She owned an operated Schlak Farm for many years with her family. She enjoyed playing cards and BINGO. Ruth enjoyed the outdoors, especially enjoying the birds, flowers, and her garden. Ruth is survived by her children, Victoria (Bethel Jr) Smith of Alpena, MI, Ervin (Lynn) Schlak of Millersburg, Marlene (George) Perkins, Raymond (Susan) Schlak, Elizabeth (Steven) Smith, all three of Hillman, MI; daughter in law, Phyllis Schlak of Pontiac, MI; 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, and siblings, Elsie Sauer, Esther Werner, Art (Eleanor) Strohschein, Julis (Verla) Strohschein, from Hillman, and Raymond (Janet) Strohschein of Grand Rapids, MI; and sister in laws, Verna Jean Strohschein of Hillman and Martha (Harold) Hopp of Rogers City, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Victoria; husband, Robert Schlak; sons, Richard and Roland Schlak; granddaughter, Doreen Smith; brothers, Leo and Herman Strohschein; sisters, Agnes Schalk and Johanna Strohschein; and a newborn baby brother. Funeral services for Mrs. Schlak will be held on August 6, 2011, at 11:00 AM at the St Johns Lutheran Church, Royston, MI, Pastor Jason Mandley officiating. Interment will take place at Montmorency Twp Cemetery. Visitation hours will be held of Friday from 3-9 PM and again from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church.
