Robert W. Shumaker Robert W. Shumaker, age 83 of Hillman, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at home. He was born July 8, 1924 in Detroit to Clarence and Clara (Snow) Shumaker. Robert married Doris E. Berry in Roseville in 1952. He retired from the Detroit Fire Department in 1969 after 25 years of service and moved his family to their home on Lake Avalon. Bob was a past real estate agent, Hillman school bus driver, Village Council trustee and Montmorency County Commissioner. Mr. Shumaker was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Hillman Senior Center. Robert is survived by his wife Doris; 5 children, Vicki (Thomas) Josephites, Patti (Richard) Krupnek, Sally (Edward) Kavanaugh, James Shumaker and Thomas (Penny) Shumaker; 5 grandchildren, Steven, Tyler, Devon, Derek, and Amanda; 1 sister, Dorothy Haas, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Clara; stepmother, Fern; 3 brothers, Howard, Clifford, and William; 1 brother in law, Tony Hass; 2 sisters in law, Bonnie Shumaker and Leona Shumaker; and 1 niece, Bonnie Jean. Pastor Jason Mandley will conduct a memorial service at St. John Lutheran Chuch in Royston on Saturday, July 21 at 11 a.m. Family will receive friends at church from 10 a.m.
