Nelson Earl Belangie Nelson Earl Belangie, 85, of Atlanta, MI, passed away on November 30, 2011 at Tendercare Gaylord. He was born on August 28, 1926 to Nelson Edward and Betty (Budcish) Belangie in Detroit, MI. He served his country in WWII in the US Navy, and was a member of the Atlanta Veterans of Foreign Wars. He moved to Atlanta in the early 70's from Detroit, where he retired from the Detroit Fire Department after 25+years of service. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, and shooting darts at the Wedge. He was a softball player for many years, on the the Detroit Firemen's fast pitch league for many years, also played on other leagues as well. His love for softball got him involved in the planning of the ball fields at Davis Field in Atlanta. Earl is survived by his son, Norman Belangie of Southfield, MI; step sons, Stanley (Bev) Pirozek of Kingsley, MI, and Russell Pirozek of Atlanta, MI; step daughters, Pam Vardas of Westland, MI, Sarah (Dan) Wager of Kitchener, Ontario, and Lynn (John) Webb of Livonia, MI; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Kirk of Toledo, OH. He was preceded in death by his wife Doreen. As were his wishes, cremation has taken place and there are no services for Mr Belangie planned at this time.
