Melvin Alexander Ertman Melvin Alexander Ertman, 81, of Atlanta, Michigan died on Monday, April 25, 2011, at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility after his battle against brain cancer. He was born in Detroit on July 17, 1929, to Bertha and Walter Ertman and married to Theresa (Polselli) Ertman on July 12, 1976. Melvin grew up in the city of Detroit until eighth grade, upon which time he moved to his grandparents in Tyre. As a young man he worked small jobs until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1951. He served time in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in support of the Korean War. Upon returning to the US, he hired on at the GM Saginaw Metal Castings Plant and raised a family. He retired in 1984, and eventually settled in Atlanta, Michigan. During his retirement years, Melvin enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, morel picking, fishing, hunting, playing his steel guitar, polkas, classic country music, four-wheeling, and the peacefulness of his home in the country. His friends and family will always remember and cherish his great sense of humor and thoughtfulness. Melvin is survived by his daughters & son, Mary Holland and her husband, Tom, of Romeo, MI, David Ertman and his wife, Lori, of Cass City, MI, Paula Djurovic and her husband, Robert, of Oakland Township, MI, and Michelle Kreger and her husband, Jerry, of Denver, NC; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Wisniewski and her husband, George, of Frankenmuth, MI, Lorraine Danielak and her husband, Jack, of Houghton Lake, Janice Braun and her husband, Donald, of Pensacola, Florida, and Marilyn Klco and her husband, Alan, of Frankenmuth, MI; brother, Donald Ertman and his wife, Penny, of Minden City, MI; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father Bertha & Walter Ertman, and brothers Sylvester (Elmer), Ernie and Bernard. Funeral services for Mr Ertman will be held on, Friday, April 29, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Green Funeral Home, Atlanta, MI, Mr Jim Slasinski officiating. Visitation hours will be held from 11:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. A luncheon will be held at the Atlanta Eagles Hall following the services.
