Matthew Thomas Smith Matthew Thomas Smith, 23, of Montrose, MI, formerly of Hillman, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. He was born on June 11, 1985 to Thomas and Dora (Rodriguez) Smith in Detroit, MI. Matt spent most of his life in Hillman, and attended high school here. Since high school, he had worked as a night manager at Spring Hill Suites in Frankenmuth, and for Fibercare commercial cleaners throughout the east coast of the United States. He enjoyed to fish, and loved the fishing trips to Canada with his family. He enjoyed riding horses, and always liked to "dream big". He loved to spend time with his family. Matthew is survived by his father, Thomas Smith of Montrose, MI; mother, Dora Smith of Detroit, MI; sister, Jennifer Smith of Detroit; grandparents, Ursula and Rodney Schook of Hillman, MI, Betty Valdez of Alabama, and Duncan (Mung) Smith of Missouri; uncles, Rodney (Robin) Schook and Michael (Carrie) Smith both of Hillman, MI, Mike Schook of Florida, Angel Rodriguez and Mark Rodriguez both of Detroit, MI; aunts, Stephanie Hernandez of Alabama, and Diana Edgar of Hillman, MI; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by an aunt, Lola Martinez. Funeral services for Mr Smith will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the Hillman Free Methodist Church, Pastor Robert Coen officiating. Visitation hours will be held on Monday from 3-7 PM and again on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the Church
