Mary Elaine Niemann Mrs. Mary Elaine Niemann, 89 of Gaylord, Michigan; formerly of Hillman, Michigan passed away on December 30, 2014 at Otsego Memorial Hospital with loved ones at her side. Mary was born on February 7, 1925 in Flint, Michigan to James and Genevieve (Gallagher) Couls. She married, Lawrence Niemann in October of 1951 in Detroit and together they resided in Mt. Clemens. Mary was a longtime nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Clemens and also at Martha T. Berry Medical Care Facility. After retiring, she owned and operated a travel agency in the Utica area. The couple moved to Hillman, where Mary was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Royston. Mary was an artist who loved to draw and paint a variety of subjects. She applied these talents to instruct students at Trinity Lutheran in Mt. Clemens. After her husbands death, Mary moved to Alten Zimmer where she spent her last years. Above everything, Mary enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends and will be dearly missed. She is survived by sons, Lawrence (Myrna) Nieman of Calabash, North Carolina; Bernie (Janet) Nieman of Gaylord; grandchildren, Rebecca, Marlene, Michelle, and Janelle; great-grandchildren, Mike, Marcus, Marissa, Eddie, and Monica; brother, Jim (Bev) Couls of Villages, Florida; sisters, Gladys Tesner of Manteno, Illinois; Marge Pardonnet of Oxford, Florida; and Beverly (Bob) Davis of Flint; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Genevieve Couls; husband of 56 years, Lawrence Niemann; and son, Richard. Funeral services for Mrs. Niemann will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church; Royston, Michigan; Pastor Jason Mandley officiating. Visitation will take place from 11:00AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested donations to the Otsego County Commission on Aging.
