Marvin "Duke" McKay Marvin "Duke" McKay, 74, of Lachine, MI formerly of Central Lake, MI, passed away on January 14, 2010 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Alpena, MI. He was born on October 1, 1935 in Curran, MI to Fern (Notestine) and John McKay, the 5th of their 6 children. Growing up in Curran he was known as "Duke". He graduated from Fairview High School in 1953 and moved to Detroit, MI. On July 23, 2955 he married the former Betty McCormick at Christ United Methodist Church in Detroit. He was a member of Spratt United Methodist Church. After moving to Detroit in 1953, be began working for Cadillac Motors and retired from there after 30 yrs. He was a Sergeant 1st Class in the Army Reserves Military Police from 1955-1962. "Duke" was a Boy Scout Scoutmaster in the 1960's and was involved in the Central Lakes Lions Club from 1983-19954. He won the "Melvin Jones Fellow" award during his time with the Lions Club. Duke enjoyed hunting, target shooting, and doing geneology research. Marvin is survived by his children, Gary McKay of Romulus, MI, and Cindy Rocz of Alpena, MI; four grandchildren, Amy Griffor of Gaylord, MI, Susan McKay of Canton, MI, Gail McKay of Taylor, MI, and Sgt Michael (Marian) Rocz of Ft Campbell, KY; and 6 great grandchildren, Kailena, Christopher, Rebecka, Gabriel, Trevor, and Liam; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty; parents; brothers, Orville "Scott", Donald, and Robert; and sisters, Rugth McRobb and Marion McKay. As were his wishes, Mr McKay has been cremated and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Spratt United Methodist Church, Rev Donald Derby officiating. The family has suggested memorials to the Spratt United Methodist Church at 7440 M 65 South, Lachine, MI 49753.
