Allard Jr., Marvin Charles, age 65, succumbed to metastatic esophageal cancer on April 18, 2023. Marvin was an extremely accomplished carpenter with an impressive career that spanned over 48 years, designing and constructing countless dwellings, with a specialty in ornate staircases. He loved to work with his hands and if he wasn’t using them to construct something, you’d probably find him tinkering with another one of his passions, rebuilding vintage “Jonsered” chainsaws. Marvin loved the outdoors—the woods, the countryside, plants, trees, lakes and rivers. One of his first jobs was cutting timber in the woods with his father-in-law and from there his love of the outdoors and “Jonsered” chainsaws, came to be. He also loved to fish and always said if he wasn’t working so much, he’d love to spend more time with a rod. Marvin enjoyed baseball and was always a huge fan of Babe Ruth. He loved to weight-train and was always an advocate for staying active. He thoroughly enjoyed family trips and always said he’d like to travel more when he retired. Marvin also held a passion for movies, especially how the movies were made and the massive creative team working together to do so. His favorites included the Star Wars saga, Superman the Movie (1978), Avatar and Avatar—The Way of Water, which was his last visit to the cinema this past December—and if you were ever in need of a trivia partner, Marvin would have been your best choice! He absolutely loved to read and expand his knowledge and knew an answer for just about any question you asked.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Sr. and Evelyn Allard, and his sister Patricia. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 48 years, Connie; daughters, Jessica (Nick) and Jennifer (Henry); five grandchildren, Tayler, Amanda, Nicholas, Bre (Frank) and Ryan (Kiarra); two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Makenna; and numerous friends and colleagues.
Funeral services for Marvin will take place at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 28, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 22000 County Rd 452 in Hillman, Pastor Jason Mandley officiating. Visitation will take place starting at 10:00 AM until the time of service. The family would like to express our thanks to Karmanos Cancer Institute-Macomb and McLaren Hospice for their care and support.
