Mark Vanderveer

Mark Vanderveer, Mr. Mark Vanderveer, 94 of Hillman passed away on July 15, 2013 at Hillman's Haven. He was born to the late Joseph and Jane (Dorman) Vanderveer in Sandusky County, Michigan on April 10, 1919. He married wife, Hazel (Edgar) Vanderveer in Hillman on October 3, 1937 and they spent 75 years together before her passing in 2012. He was a member of the Hillman United Methodist Church and an associate at the Englewood United Methodist Church where he spent many winters. He was a past member of the Hillman Rotary where he was very active and a lifetime member of the Hillman VFW being past commander. Mark was the owner and operator of Vanderveer Furniture in Hillman for over 30 years and also owned his own trucking company for many years hauling with his 1953 Chevrolet. He enjoyed many hobbies in his free time and was an avid hunter, especially deer. He enjoyed golfing, music--often singing along with the choir, and flying into Canada for fishing trips with his friends. He was an avid card player and enjoyed games such as euchre, pinochle, and bridge. Above all, he enjoyed his time spent with family and friends. He is survived by daughter, Marcia Bodeen of North Port, FL and her friend Esco Long of Venice, FL; son-in-law, Calvin Quinn of Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law, Ethyl Vanderveer of Waterford; granddaughter, Anita (Dale) Herbek of Mesa, AZ; grandson, Ernie Quinn of Mesa, AZ; granddaughter, Nancy (John) Burns of Springfield, MO; grandson, Mark (Anita) White of Warrenville, IL; granddaughter, Susan (Steven) Tesar of New Richmond, WI; grandson, Eric (Tracy) White of Durant, IA; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; nephew, Joe (Sharon) Vanderveer; nephew, Larry (Sharon) Vanderveer; nephew, Neil (Lynn) Morrison; niece, Darlene (Ronald) Wood; niece, Geraldine Hubbard; all of Hillman; niece, Ruth Ann (Norman) Benson of Alpena. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jane Vanderveer; son, Hugh Mark Vanderveer; daughter, Sylvia Quinn; nephew, Leslie Morrison; and five brothers and sisters. Funeral services for Mr. Vanderveer will be held at 12:00PM, Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Hillman United Methodist Church, Hillman, MI. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church. Pastor Mike Kelley officiating. Interment will take place at Hillman Rust Twp Cemetery.
