Marjorie Mae Dunn

Marjorie (Margie) Koebel Dunn went home to be with the Lord on June 8, 2023. She was 97 years old.  Margie grew up on a farm in Berrien Springs, MI and loved gardening and flowers her entire life.  Margie went to Western Michigan College of Education obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education in 1948.  While at college, Margie met the love of her life Richard Dunn, they married in 1950 and moved to Birmingham, MI.  She started her teaching career at the elementary school in Berrien Springs, MI from 1948-1950, she then taught at Parkland Elementary school in Clawson, MI from 1950-1953.  Margie took 13 years off from teaching to raise her four children.  In 1967, she was hired by the Troy School District where she taught elementary education and retired in 1991 as a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant.  

In retirement Margie enjoyed wintering in Florida while spending her summers at Canada Creek Ranch.  She also spent time tending to her flowers, watching Tiger baseball, and doing jigsaw puzzles.  Margie enjoyed being with family and friends and was a surrogate mother and grandmother to many loved ones.

Margie is survived by her children, Janet (Paul) Edwards, Jane Gordon, Joseph (Lora) Dunn, sisters, Mary Russell and Lois Miller; grandson, Joshua Dunn; and many nieces and nephews.  Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Vernie and Marguerite Koebel; her husband of 67 years, Richard Dunn; son, James Dunn; granddaughter, Jardena Martinez, and sister Betty Eisenhart.

A mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Hillman, Michigan;  Fr. Jim Siler officiating. A luncheon will follow from 12:30-3:30 PM at Canada Creek Ranch, Atlanta.
