Lester Thayer

Lester Thayer Lester Thayer, 88, of Lewiston, MI, passed away on March 6, 2011 at Florida Hospital Waterman in Tavares, FL. He was born on March 12, 1922 to Lloyd and Ethel (Stonehouse) Thayer in Bellaire, MI. He married the former Phyllis Dunham on June 4, 1944 at Camp Crowder, MO while he was in the US Army, where he served during WWII as a Tech Sergeant in Northern India. He was a long standing member of the Congregation of the United Church of Christ in Lewiston. He enjoyed fishing, and was an avid Johannesburg Lewiston High School sports fan. He was proud of his time he spent working as an electrical engineer with Michigan Bell for over 30 yrs. He then went on to teach electronics and computer science at Kirtland Community College. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and also the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Omega Chapter. Lester is survived by his sons, Robert (Barbara Wade) Thayer of Grayling, MI, and Rev Richard (Myra) Thayer of Reston, VA; grandchildren, Daun, Aaron, and Daniel; great grandchildren, Amber and Haydn; and a brother, Carl (Shirley) Thayer of Ann Arbor, MI. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; brother, Glen Thayer; and a sister, Audrey Stampfler. Funeral services for Mr Thayer will be held on April 30, 2011 at the Congregation of the United Church of Christ, Lewiston, MI, Pastor Toby Stadden officiating, at 1:00 PM, visitation hours will be held from 11:00 AM until time of service at the church. Interment will take place at Albert Twp Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials to the Congregation of the United Church of Christ, Lewiston, MI.
