Leroy Beckett

d. November 23, 2016

Leroy Leonard Beckett Leroy Leonard Beckett, 77, of Atlanta, Michigan, died Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Mid Michigan Medical Center in Alpena following a brief illness and complications from Parkinson's disease. Leroy is proceeded in death by his parents Sarah Louise (Laflin) and Leonard Wilson Beckett and his brother Larry Beckett. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Judy (Markham) Beckett - better known in Atlanta as the "cake lady"; two daughters, Marcia Burton and Wendy Murdock (Beckett) and her husband Rex Murdock; and two sons, Marty and his wife Michelle (Hardin) Beckett and Brad Beckett; four grandsons: Dylan and Dustin Beckett, Matthew Burton and Christopher Riney; and one Granddaughter, Carlie Murdock. Born and raised in Ypsilanti, Leroy and Judy moved to Atlanta after retiring from General Motors in 1989. Leroy served in the Army National Guard Reserve between 1957-1959. After serving with the National Guard, Leroy worked at a greenhouse. It was during this time he was called to work at General Motors where he worked for 31 years. Leroy had a passion for basset hounds and bred and sold more than 100 puppies. If he wasn't with the bassets, you could find him outside in the garden tending to tomatoes, grapes, fruit trees - the man could grow anything! But most important in his life, was his dedication to his loving wife Judy and their love for the great northern Michigan and Lake Superior. A private ceremony will be held by family members with Leroy's final resting place on the shores of Lake Superior.
