Leon Albert Gilbert

Mr. Leon Albert Gilbert, 82 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at his home on August 16, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Romulus, Michigan on June 24, 1941, to the late Hurbert and Margaret (Kassin) Gilbert. Leon graduated from Romulus High School in 1959 and on July 23, 1960, he married his wife, Shirley (Oakley) Gilbert. Together the couple celebrated 63 years of marriage before his passing. Leon worked for GM Fisher Body for 30 years before retiring. He has resided in Atlanta with Shirley for the last 33 years. He was a member of the Hillman United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. Leon was a fixer of many things and was always available and willing to help others. His family, however, was his number one priority and he cherished time spent with them. Leon is and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Gilbert of Atlanta; daughters, Dora (Fred) Krauss of Naples, Florida; Denise (Kevin) Wood of Fowlerville; grandchildren, Robert Krauss, Matthew Krauss, Amelia Messamore, Dean Gilbert, Stacey Sisson, Brent Wood; great-grandchildren, Addison, Lainey, Hallie, Carrington, Everett, Maven, Gianna, Alivia, Jonah, Landon, Maggie, and Nora. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hurbert and Margaret Gilbert; son, Dean; and siblings, Hurbert, Rose, and Josephine.
