Mr. Johnie David Kemp, 85 of Hillman, Michigan passed away on December 2, 2020 at his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on April 5, 1935 to George Lenard and Romie J. (Terry) Kemp in Senath, Missouri. He and his mother moved to Flint in 1946. He graduated from Dye High School in Flint. In December 20, 1958 he married, Carolyn (Bentley) Kemp in the Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church in Hillman.
He attended Alpena Community College from 1966-1967 and then graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Michigan in Flint in 1970. In 1990 he retired from GM and moved north to Pleasant Valley, Hillman, Michigan. Buying the 2nd edition dictionaries was on of his loves. He was a collector of many classic books and loved his library. Traveling and camping were another of his favorite hobbies.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; sons, Marcus Kemp of Alpena; Kurt Kemp of Birch Run; grandchildren, Cory Gibbons, Cameron, Trinity and Logan Kemp. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Romie Kemp; sisters, Ella Mae Watts, Louise Akers, Margie Masterson, Helen Draper, Birdean Johnsons; and brothers, Fred Matthews and Rozzell Kemp.
At his request, cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held in celebration of his life in the Spring of 2021 with a graveside service at Hillman Rust Township Cemetery. If you wish to make a tribute to Johnie, you may do so at Hospice of Michigan, 145 N. State Ave. Alpena, Michigan 49707.
