John Vine

John D. Vine John D. Vine, 80, of Lewiston, MI, passed away on November 11, 2008 at his residence. He was born on June 23, 1928 in Ann Arbor, MI to John and Georgia (Tuttle) Vine. He married the former Erna Crosby in 1948 and together they built their first home in Sylvania, Ohio where they lived and raised their family until moving to Johannesburg, MI in 1980. John worked 30+ years as an auto mechanic in Toledo, Ohio and then moved to Michigan and was caretaker for Garland and Herman and Hildegard Otto at their estate on East Twin until retirement in 1992. John loved woodworking and could fix anything from cars to his grandchildren's toys in fact he almost lived in his workshop and garage. John is survived by his wife, Erna, of Lewiston, MI; daughters, Julianna (Skip) Vetrano of Lewiston, MI, and Joanna Vine of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Naomi, and Monica; great grandchildren, Zoe and Riley; and a brother, George (Barb) Vine of Pikeville, TN. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melanie Vetrano. As were his wishes, cremation has taken place and there are no services planned at this time. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Friends of the Lewiston Library.
