Mr. John Edward McGrail, 86 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at his home surrounded by the love of his family on the afternoon of October 28, 2021. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 27, 1935 to the late, John and Ann (Ducas) McGrail. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War which ended on his 18th birthday. John married his wife, Marlene (Hemminghaus) McGrail on September 6, 1958 in Detroit and together the couple have remained almost inseparable for the last 63 years. In December of 1958, John earned his certification as a Resilient Floor installer and continued this career for over 40 years. The couple raised their family of six in Sterling Heights before moving to Atlanta in 1985. After John retired, they moved in 2003 to Brimley and then back to Atlanta in 2015. He was a member of the VFW Post 9023 in Brimley. John was always active and enjoyed both fishing and woodworking. He also liked to watch golf on television and worked as a caddy when he was a teenager. He was a social, patriotic man that valued the time he spent with his family and friends. He leaves them with countless memories and pride for their country. He will be deeply missed.
John is survived by his loving wife, Marlene McGrail of Atlanta; children, Patrick (Heather) McGrail of Atlanta; Jill Hendren of Hemet, California; Maureen McGrail of Atlanta; Brian (Tracie) McGrail of Chesterfield; James McGrail of Gaylord; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and brother, Gerald (Linda) McGrail of Atlanta; He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ann McGrail; son, John; and sister, Rosemary.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family has chosen to remember John privately at this time.
