John Hofstra Jr.

John "Jack" Hofstra Jr. John "Jack" Hofstra Jr, 74, of Lewiston, passed away on September 18, 2008 at his residence. He was born on December 31, 1933 to John Sr and Sylvia (Boughton) in Detroit, MI. He married the former Edith Kriesch on August 10, 1963 in Detroit. Jack has lived in Lewiston since 1970 formerly of Westland, MI. He owned and operated Jack's Heating and Sheet Metal for 25+ yrs in Lewiston. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Jack was also a member of many other groups and clubs, including the Lewiston Curling Club, Industrial Development Corporation, past Albert Twp Board Member, Lewiston VFW, the Twin Lakes Association, and was active with the area Boy Scouts. He used to enjoy flying, and was active at the Sheridan Valley Ski Hill in the past. He was quite a handyman, rairly going anywhere without a roll of duct tape. He enjoyed old cars and attending car shows and was also an avid card player. In front of everything else came his family, he loved raising his children and enjoyed all of his grandchildren. Jack is survived by his wife, Edie; sons, Duane (Cindy) of Reedsville, WI, Jarett (Tammy) and Eric both of Lewiston, MI, Jon of Manitowac, WI, and Nick of Fairfax, VA; daughters, Tammy Hofstra of Posen, IL, Chandra (Brian) Plaggemars of Newaygo, MI, and Deb Hosftra stationed with the USAF in Korea; grandchildren, Ashley, Joshua, Sean, Logan, Jacob, and Jeremiah; a sister, Judith (Bill) Winkler of Corvales, OR; sister in law, Carole Guerin of Baytown, TX, and Brother in law, Karl (Mary) Kriesch of Grove, OK. A casual memorial gathering will be held at the Hofstra residence on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 1:00 PM, Pastor Robert Butler officiating, with a pig roast to follow, just as Jack always wanted.
