John "Jack" Gutka John "Jack" Gutka, 85, of Hillman, MI passed away on December 30, 2007 at Alpena Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 16, 1922 to Steve and Belle (Eurek) Gutka in Saginaw, MI. He married June Gutka on June 6, 1952 in Detroit, MI. Jack served his country during WWII in the United States Marine Corps, participating in the Battles of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, and Timian. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Ferris State University and went on to earn a Master's Degree from Michigan State University. Jack worked as a teacher for 30 yrs, retiring from Fitzgerald High School in Warren, MI. He was a member of St Augustine Catholic Church and the Hillman Knights of Columbus. He was the past commander of both Chapter 88 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and VFW Post 2356 in Hillman, MI. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed both hunting and fishing. Jack is survived by his three sons, Martin of Warren, MI, Mike of Alpena, MI, and Jay (Carsha) of Renton, WA; and a grandson, James Gutka of Renton, WA. He was preceded in death by his wife, June; sisters, Virginia, Victoria, and Marcello; and brothers, Floyd and Roman. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM, on January 3, 2008 at the Green Funeral Home, Hillman, MI, Fr Vianney Sipulski OFM officiating. Visitation hours will be held from 4:00 until time of service. Interment with military honors will take place in the Spring at St Augustine Catholic Cemetery.
