John Ehlers

John Ehlers John Ehlers, 80, of Atlanta, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord, MI. John was born on October 27, 1927 to Frank and Hilda (VanRee) Ehlers in Kalamazoo, MI. He has lived in Atlanta for the past 15 yrs, vacationing here for many years prior. He retired as a self-employed contractor after 20 yrs, then went on to work for another 16 years as an insurance adjuster. He loved to design and build homes. His work of choice included trim carpentry which he shared with his father, and running his portable sawmill with his sons. He was an active member of St Mark's Episcopal Church in Atlanta, and love to sing and work at church. He was active in the development of Camp Michi Lu-Ca in Fairview, the redevelopment of Camp Chickagamme, north of Alpena, was instrumental in furthering the development of St Marks in Atalnta, and was a past choir member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lewiston. He enjoyed boating and being outdoors. He liked to spend time with family and friends. John is survived by his children, Sharlene Lannan of Holly, MI, Wayne Ehlers of Waterford, MI, Toni (Mike) Hartke of Plymouth, MI, Denise (Geoff) Baer of Stafford, VA, John Ehlers of Atlanta, MI, Elizabeth Johnson of Chico, CA, Sharon Pickrel of Cincinnati, OH, Don (Sherrie) Ehlers of Atlanta, MI, Mike (Erica) Pickrel of Rockville, MD, and Emilee (Geoff) Patrifhkoff of Rochester Hills, MI; 30 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Anthony (Betty) Ehlers of Kalamazoo, MI, and Frank (Jackie) Ehlers of Fremont, CA; sister Mary (Don) Wauchope of Tifton, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. As were his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St Mark's Episcopal Church, Rev Gerald Rehegan officiating. A memorial gathering will be held at Green Funeral Home, Atlanta, MI on Thursday evening from 4-8 p.m.
