Jane Moore Black Jane Moore Black died January 9, 2013 surrounded by the people she loved and with her beloved dog Moxie by her side. Born in 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri, she graduated from Washington University in St. Louis as a fashion designer, later working in Chicago, where she lived with her husband Dwight Black, an architect. Returning to St. Louis in 1951, they raised two daughters, Margaret (Christopher Tatum) and Christine (James Lewis), where Jane became a reluctant Girl Scout leader; however, she rose in the scouting ranks serving on the Board of Directors for St. Louis from 1966-69. In later years, Jane's philanthropy helped many national and local organizations in Orlando, Florida and later in Michigan where she lived. In keeping with her wishes, there will be a private service in the spring at the Bellefontaine Cemetery in Missouri. She loved entertaining her five grandchildren, Mercedes Michalowski, Dwight Lewis, Joseph Tatum, David Tatum (Brandy) and Thomas Tatum, in her Lewiston, Michigan home and treasured knowing them as adults. To them, she was a charismatic, proud lady who loved Jack Daniels, Scrabble, the beach at Longboat, Key Florida and making peanut butter toast. She also had one great granddaughter Julia Michalowski, whose energy and life force sustained her. If you care to celebrate Jane's life with more than a toast of Sláinte and lift of a glass, she believed giving help locally was important. Memorial contributions can be made to one of the three organizations she believed in because of their work in her community: Friends for Life of Otsego County Michigan, Cat Spay and Neuter Fund; Harbor Hospice of Muskegon (Michigan); and the LaFemina Creative Writing Scholarship at Kirtland Community College in Roscommon, Michigan. Arrangements were entrusted to the Green Funeral Home. Condolence messages can be sent via our website, www.greenfuneralhomes.com.
