James C. Mitchell, "JC" 95 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at MidMichigan Medical Center in Alpena on June 8, 2020. JC was a loving family man who was at his best in the outdoors. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed his time up north as well as in Florida. JC was a jack of all trades. There was nothing he couldn't do when he set his mind to a task. He was a Navy UDT (predecessor to the Navy Seals) in WWII, came home and married Mary Lou in 1949. They would have celebrated their 71st anniversary this year. JC opened his own construction company, became a light plane pilot, a licensed charter boat Captain, and together with Mary, built the house of their dreams. JC loved to sing, recite poetry, and always appreciated a good joke. He will be greatly missed by many, but never forgotten, and always held dear in our hearts.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou Mitchell; son, James R. Mitchell; granddaughters, Jennifer Domulot and Mary-Carol Jackson; sister, Nancy Cochrum; and nephew, Capt. Glenn Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nanabell Mitchell; daughter, Carol Ann Mitchell; and sister, Evelyn Sullivan.
In accordance with his wishes, JC was cremated. The family has chosen to remember him privately at this time.
