James "Jim" Lloyd Fast, age 81, passed away suddenly at his home in Lewiston, Michigan. Jim was the son of R. George and Fern (Foxall) Fast, born on October 19, 1942 in Detroit. He grew up with his three siblings Janet, Robert, and Thomas. Jim was a Boy Scout and ran track. He attended Royal Oak Schools in Southeast Michigan and also Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army from March of 1961 to March of 1964, which included being stationed at Fort Hamilton, New York and also Germany. He received a Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter for a M-14 rifle. He was honorably discharged from the Army reserve in 1967.
After returning home from military service, Jim was married to Carol Green (but later divorced) and together they raised their three children; Shawn 1969, Tracy 1973, and Todd 1974. Jim also graduated from RETS Electronic School in Detroit and had a long and successful career at Ford Motor Company as an Engineering Technologist. Additionally, he spent time in Indian Guides, being a soccer coach, fixing cars, sail boating, studying the law and also the U.S. Constitution. In 2002, Jim retired as a single man and moved to Lewiston with his dog, Mugsy. In retirement, he enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, camping, the yearly Fast Family Christmas Party, the Lewiston Timberfest and being a grandparent. Jim was a very proud grandpa to Jack 2006, Isaac 2008, Angel 2010 and Alexander 2013.
Jim is survived by his son, Shawn (Catherine) Fast; daughter, Tracy (James) Jarosz with their three children Jack, Isaac, and Angel; son Todd (Jennifer) Fast and their son Alexander; sister, Janet (Don) Smith; niece, Kelly (Chuck) Voelker and their two sons; brother, Robert (Melinda) Fast; nephew, Nathan Fast and his two sons; and niece, Jennifer (Matt) Latham and their two sons, and a sister-in- law Delanie Fast. Jim was preceded in death by both his parents and his younger brother, Tom.
