J. Riley McElroy J. Riley McElroy, 84, of Atlanta, passed away on October 14, 2007 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. He was born on October 3, 1923 to Justin and Hazel (Haines) McElroy in Ada, Ohio. Riley served in the 82d Airborne during WWII. Riley was a Conservation Officer for the Department of Natural Resources for many years, retiring in 1978. In retirement her took a job as an investigator for the Montmorency County Friend of the Court. He was a member of the VFW Post and also the Masonic Lodge in Atlanta. He was an avid walker and golfer. Riley enjoyed to be in his garden, hunt, and fish. He loved to travel. Above all else, his friends and family were number one. Riley is survived by his wife, Del, of Atlanta, MI; daughter, Jenny (Michael) Lyons of Muskegon, MI, and Joy (Clark) Hamilton-McElroy of Palestine, TX; step son, Robert (Camille) Campenella of Howell, MI; 4 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jerry, a daughter, Jill Valentine, and a brother Roger McElroy. As were his wishes, Mr. McElroy has been cremated and there are no services planned at this time. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
