The cab driver was the witness to the marriage performed in a minister's home. She worked as a waitress in East Pittsburgh and then followed her husband through army basic training in Maryland, Virginia, and Georgia. In 1945, while her husband served as a technical sergeant with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, she worked in the Ordinance Department at the Pentagon and was able to track his whereabouts. After the war, she moved with her husband, Bill to Dearborn, MI and then to Taylor, MI where she was a stay at home mom for her three children. She then worked part-time and full-time jobs in retail clothing sales as they matured. After her retirement, the couple moved to their lake home in Brooklyn, MI where she worked with the security office and Property Owners Association. An active gal who loved nature, Hilda enjoyed planting flowers, keeping a neat lawn and house, swimming, boating, water-skiing, sewing, reading, cooking great meals, playing with her poodle, doing crosswords, listening to music and watching Tiger baseball. She maintained and lived in her own home until she moved to the Atlanta-Johannesburg area about six years ago, living with her daughter for a short time. For the past several years, Hilda was a resident at Linda Englehardt's Care Home in Atlanta and then Weber Adult Foster Care Home of Gaylord. She was so blessed to be in the hands of the loving and dedicated angels who staffed these homes. They went above and beyond the call of duty. Hilda's family is so grateful to all the dears who made her last years as comfortable and joyful as possible. She will be missed for her spunkiness and strength, as well as her ability to weather all of her life's many storms.
