Harvey M. Turner Harvey M. Turner, 89, of Atlanta, MI, formerly of Grand Marais, MN, died July 29, 2009 at the home of his daughter. He was born Nov. 5, 1919 in Evanston, IL to June and Leslie Turner. He retired as chief product engineer at Donaldson Company in Minneapolis where he worked for 25 years. He then continued his education at the University of Minnesota, earning a Batchelors Degree in Art Education. Harvey taught in the Mounds View School District for approximately 16 years before retiring to Grand Marais where he had taught at the Grand Marais Art Colony for a number of summers. He was most proud of his retirement job at Naniboujou Lodge on Lake Superior. Harvey was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Grand Marais and was a past member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. Surviving are two children, Carol (Tom) Young of Atlanta, MI and Charles (Cheryl Anderson) Turner of Minneapolis; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert, of Newark, DE. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, and a brother, Howard. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. at Atlanta Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Virginia Titus officiating. Those wishing to make memorial donations may want to consider the Elk Country Animal Shelter or Hospice of Michigan.
