Harry Smith

Mr. Harry George Smith, 84 of Johannesburg, Michigan died peacefully at his home surrounded by loving family on the early morning of June 7, 2020. He was born in Pontiac, Michigan to George Andrew and Florence Hazel  (Hollingshead) Smith on December 17, 1935. He married Donna Rae Russell on September 26, 1953 and together they celebrated 66 years of marriage before Donna's passing on March 8, 2020. Formerly of Tennessee and Clarkston, Michigan, Harry moved to Johannesburg in 2000 with his late wife, Donna. He retired as a crane operator from GM truck and bus in 1990 after 37 years. Harry used to enjoy hunting and fishing and was avid in woodworking. He enjoyed being outdoors, camping with family, gardening--especially his tomato plants, watching Westerns, boxing, and going garage saling. Harry will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his sons, Randy (Debbie) Smith of Leesburg, Georgia; Ricky (Rhonda) Smith of Spring Hill, Tennessee; daughters, Rose (Charles) Karen of Johannesburg; Vickie (Dan) Pierce of  Ethridge, Tennessee; Bonnie (Rick Resendez) Smith of Waterford; Sandy Hamilton of Burton; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and brother, John (Sharlene) Smith of Waterford; and several close friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Hazel Smith; wife, Donna; brother, Jim; and sister, Verna Thompson.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will take place at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at the Green Funeral Home, Lewiston; Pastor Dave Hall officiating. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 11:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials to Compassus Hospice of Atlanta.
