Gwen Copeland Gwen Copeland, 85, of Hillman, MI, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Medilodge Nursing Home in Hillman. She was born on July 24, 1922 to Boyce and Ruby (Holland) Taylor in Murray, KY. She married Richard Copeland on July 11, 1946 in Highland Park, MI, celebrating 61 years of marriage earlier this year. Gwen attended Murray State University in Kentucky, and graduated from Wayne State University in Michigan with a Masters Degree in Education. She served as an elementary school teacher for over 20 yrs in Redford Twp, MI. Gwen was also a talented artist and doll maker. She was an active member of the Hillman United Methodist Church for over 27 yrs, serving in many capacities there. She also served on the founding Board of Directors of the Hillman medical clinic for several years. Gwen is survived by her loving husband, Richard; son, Gregory (Carol) Copeland of Lyndhurst, OH; daughter, Kay (Dr James) Kelley of Redlands, CA; five grandchildren, Kristin (Duane) Wolf, Allison (Jeremy) Levine, Michael (Allyson) Kelley, Suzanne Kelley, and Jeffery Kelley; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Taylor and sister Margueritte Nation. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Hillman United Methodist Church, Pastor Jack Johnston officiating. Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday from 5-9 PM at the Green Funeral Home, Hillman. Interment will take place in the spring at Hillman Rust Twp Cemetery. In lieu flowers, the family has suggested donations be made in her honor to the Hillman United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Michigan, Alpena.
