Gordon H. Pfeiffer Gordon H. Pfeiffer passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at his residence. He was born on November 27, 1930 to William and Ida (Bauer) Pfeiffer in Rust Twp, MI. Gordon attended the Klein school in Rust Twp through the 8th grade, and then went on and graduated from Hillman High School in 1950. He then went to Montmorency County Normal and graduated with a teaching degree in 1952, and went on to teach at the Green School. He then served his country in the US Army, participating n the atomic testing in Nevada. After the service, Gordon completed his bachelors degree from Eastern Michigan University, and went back to teach 6th grade at Hillman Schools and eventually on to Jr High and coaching both basketball and baseball. He also served as the Athletic Director for a number of years. He retired from the schools in 1986, after 29 yrs of service. During this time, Gordon earned his masters in education from Eastern as well. He also taught hunter, boat, snowmobile, and off road safety courses. He officiated basketball, baseball and softball for many years, and spent countless Wednesday nights opening the gym for students to play basketball. He negotiated contracts for the MEA, was on the Rust Twp Board, the Board of Review and the PIE & G Liaison Board. He was a member of St Johns Lutheran Church. He enjoyed deer hunting, gardening, playing pinochle, big ball gold, and attending birthday parties for many of his nieces and nephews. Gordon is survived by his brother Calvin Pfeiffer of Alpena, MI; sisters, Opal (Bob) Graichen of Ypsilanti, MI, and Doris (Stan) Herrick of Hillman, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Peral Cameron, and 6 brothers, Fred, Garnet, Earl, Bill, Arnold, and Maurice. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St Johns Lutheran Church in Hillman, Pastor Jason Mandley officiating. Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-8 PM at the church. Interment will take place at Hillman Rust Twp Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon. Arrangements were entrusted to the Green Funeral Home, Hillman, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to St Johns Lutheran Church.
