Mr. Gordon Earl Ferguson passed away May 22, 2020 at Hillman's Haven. Born August 12, 1928 to Ida (Lintz) and Arthur Ferguson in Hillman. After moving to Atlanta, he attended the Edwards School. On August 19, 1946 he married Gayle Sheehan and together they raised four children. He worked with his father in excavating while growing up. He also drove truck hauling cars, wood and milk. He and his father built the first nine holes at Garland Golf Course and he worked on the north end of the Mackinaw Bridge doing road work. Many projects in Montmorency County have been worked on by him. Gordon owned and operated Ferguson Construction for over 50 years. He was active as a Montmorency County Road Commissioner, hanging the Elk at the pole in Atlanta as well as helping at the fairgrounds. Gordon enjoyed racing his stock car on different tracks around the area, snowmobiling, NASCAR, and bluegrass music. On June 9, 1984 he married, Roselyn (Guy) Miller and together they enjoyed many friends, family, and traveling.
He is survived by his children, Rick (Candice) Ferguson of Cedarville; Roger (Carol) Ferguson of West Branch; Gloria (Jim) McSwain and Russell Ferguson both of Atlanta; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren; and one great-great-great grandchild. He also leaves behind stepchildren, Luanne (Walter) Bungard of Atlanta; Cindy (Jim) Straley; Chris (Ralph) DesOrmeau both of Alpena; and Dusty (Sue) Miller of Florida along with their families. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roselyn; parents, Ida and Arthur Ferguson; brother, Gerald Ferguson; and wife, Azile; sister, June Sherbonda and husband David; as well as daughter-in-law, Linda Ferguson.
Gordon will be laid to rest in Avery Township Cemetery. A memorial will be held in celebration of his life at a later date.
