Gordon D. Cady Mr. Gordon D. Cady, age 69 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. He was born on August 9, 1948 to Arthur and Jean (Maanika) Cady on their farm on Kellyville Road in Atlanta. He graduated from Atlanta High School in 1966 and went into the Army in March of 1968 serving in Vietnam from September of 1969 through October of 1970. He married Susan E. (Smith) Cady on February 17, 1973 and together they celebrated 45 years of marriage before his passing. The couple had three children and raised them all in Atlanta. Gordon started working at Mason and Mills in Atlanta in 1971 and eventually the business expanded to Lewiston in 1975. He went on to purchase the business from the prior owners and ran it until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Atlanta. Gordon was very active in VFW Post 9489 and loved selling raffle tickets. He was a honorary member of the Forgotten Eagles and was also honored by the Masons for his community service. Aside from his volunteer work, Gordon enjoyed a variety of things. He loved to drink Diet Pepsi, go for car rides, and spend time on his farm. He was always socializing and always willing to help others in need. Above everything, he valued his time spent with family . He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Cady of Atlanta; sons, Doug (Jennifer) Cady of Lewiston; Brian (Tina) Cady of Atlanta; daughter, Melanie (Jamie) Sides of Atlanta; grandchildren, Arthur Cady, Steven Cady, Catherine Cady, and Jameson Sides; mother, Jean Cady of Waterford; sisters, Elizabeth (Wayne) Edgar of Fenton; Janet (Jeff) Davidson of Virginia; brothers, Jack (Jacque) Cady of Waterford; Eugene (Karen) Cady of Harrison, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Cady; and brother, Charles. As were his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial held in celebration of his life at 11:00AM on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Green Funeral Home; Atlanta; Pastor Phillip Seitz officiating. Visitation will take place from 10:00AM until time of service.
