Gerry Campbell

February 3, 1932 — September 16, 2015

Gerry Campbell Gerry Campbell, 83, of Hillman, Michigan, passed away at her home, on September 16th, surrounded by her loving family, and is now enjoying peace and eternal happiness with Jesus in Heaven. She was born in Detroit on February 3, 1932 to Theodore and Hattie (Lukaschewski) Vonden Benken. Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Campbell of 48 years. Gerry left a proud legacy of 5 surviving children: Lynn (Jim) Hussey, Ed Campbell, Ted (Pat) Campbell, David (Diana) Campbell, and Carol (Kurt) Tondreau. She had 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Her family was known as "The Campbell Clan". She told her family that the hardest part about dying was leaving them because they meant so much to her and didn't want to miss the future life events. Gerry had a great zest for life and lived it to the fullest. She created so many special memories for her family. She made a house a home. She exemplified what's most important in life: faith and love of the Lord and family. She was selfless, thoughtful and strong-willed. She never missed sending a card to any family member for holidays, anniversaries and birthdays. She loved cooking and was known for her cinnamon bread, pecan rolls and spaghetti dinners. She loved to travel and explore the world. Gerry and her husband, Ed, traveled to all 50 states and collected coffee cups from each one. After Ed passed away, she continued traveling to places like Switzerland, Ireland, and Australia - just to name a few. She captured many memories through photography, which she really enjoyed. She loved creating beautiful art, stained glass masterpieces, and crocheted afghans for each child and married grandchild. She was extremely talented! She also enjoyed bowling regularly in leagues and even achieved a perfect 300 score. The family will receive guests at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Hillman, Michigan, on Friday, September 25th, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm with a Vigil service at 7:00 pm. As we conclude the evening, there will be opportunity for those who wish to share cherished memories and stories. A celebration of life Mass will be held on Saturday, September 26th, at 10:00 am, at the church with the committal directly following at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery. Luncheon and fellowship to follow at St. Augustine Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, Gerry can be honored by requesting a mass in her name or by making a donation to Hospice of Michigan or your favorite charity.
