Father Dewey

Father Steven J. Dewey Father Steven J Dewey 57 of Lapeer formerly of Hillman passed away Friday, October 13, 2006 at his residence following a short illness. Steve was born on December 15, 1948 in Denver, Colorado the son of Ryland and Sherley (Moses). He married the former Colleen Engle on April 27, 1975 in Loveland, Colorado. Steve loved golf and bowling and had coached both Little League and Youth Basketball when his girls were young. While in Hillman, Steve was the Chairman of the Board of Hospice of Northeast Michigan and was one of the founders of the "Blessing of the Bikes" which still continues today. He was employed at Ford Motor Company from 1977-1987 then completed his studies at Whitacre and Seabury Western Seminary graduating in 1989. Steve was pastor at Calvary Episcopal Church in Hillman, St Marks Episcopal in Atlanta, and Grace Episcopal Church in Long Rapids from 1989 until 2000. He then moved to Lapeer where he pastored Grace Episcopal Church until January of 2005 when St Matthews Anglican Church was formed in Lapeer. Steve is survived by his wife Colleen; daughters, Rebecca (Robert) Arndt of Flushing, MI, Katherine (Matthew) Landis of Mt Pleasant, MI, and Abigail Dewey of Lapeer; granddaughters, Delaney Arndt and Theresa Landis; father Kenneth Kaffer of Denver, CO; sister Judith Dewey of Scottsdale, AZ; and a brother, Terry (Paula) Dewey of Plymouth, MI Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday from St Louise Chapel, Metamora, MI, Bishop Frank Lyons officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-7 PM and Monday from 9-12:00 PM at St Matthews Anglican Ministry Center, 66 N. Saginaw St Lapeer.
