Esther Delilah Secrist Esther Delilah Secrist, 98 of Atlanta, MI; passed away on July 11, 2011 at Traverse Manor in Traverse City, MI. She was born to William and Nora (Ewing) Secrist on September 20, 1912 in Atlanta, MI. Esther graduated from Atlanta High School in 1931. She attended St. Mary's College of Nursing in Grand Rapids, and through its affiliation with Mercy Hospital in Bay City; graduated a registered nurse in 1939. Esther volunteered her services to the United States Army in June 1941 and served until July 1945, during which time she was chief nurse at Selfridge Field. At the time of her honorable discharge she carried the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corps. Upon returning to civilian life Esther was supervisor of nurses at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord, public health nurse in Rogers City, Administrator of Russell Memorial Clinic in Onaway, and Selective Service Clerk at the Montmorency Federal Credit Union. She was also a school nurse at Atlanta Community School for twelve years. She was a member of the Big Rock Congregational Church as well. She is survived by brother, William (Sue) Secrist of Las Vegas, NV; sister in law, Theda Secrist of Traverse City, MI; nephews, Brett, Dru, and Joel Jr; great niece, Kaci, Traci, Kori, Sarah, and Kristin; and great nephew, Joel III. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nora (Ewing) Secrist, brother, Joel Secrist, and niece, Janelle Kay Klein. Funeral services for Mrs. Secrist will be held on July 19, 2011 at Big Rock Congregational Church, Atlanta, MI, Pastor Keith Jones officiating. Interment will take place at Briley Twp Cemetery.
