Edith Ellen Orlandi Mrs. Edith Ellen Orlandi, 90 of Hillman, Michigan passed away peacefully on Monday, August 27, 2018. Edith Ellen Hodgson was born on March 16, 1928 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Charles and Winifred Hodgson. Ellen, as she preferred to be called, grew up in the Detroit area and later attended Western Michigan University. She worked as an operator for Bell Telephone. On September 17, 1949 she married her sweetheart, George F. Orlandi at the family home in Kalamazoo. They made their home in the Detroit area and later in Fostoria, Ohio. Ellen graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in Library Science and later completed a Master's degree in English literature from Bowling Green State University. She taught school in Ohio from 1971 to 1996 when she retired. She loved to travel and spend time with friends and family, especially her four grandchildren. Her favorite place to visit was Lake Avalon and in 1997 she and George moved there permanently. Ellen was a faithful member of the Episcopal Church and over the years had served her faith in many capacities. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jane Hodgson. Her beloved husband passed away in 2006 after 56 years of marriage. She is survived by her two children, Stephen (Cynthia) Orlandi of Hillman; and Julia Orlandi of Westland. She has four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. As were her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration of her life will take place at Calvary Episcopal Church in Hillman on September 22, 2018 at noon with a luncheon to follow.
