Douglas Gartrelle Penn Mr. Douglas Gartrelle Penn, 83 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on October 3, 2015. He was born to the late Chester Gartrelle and Pearl Dona (Horn) Penn on April 10, 1932 in Trenton, Michigan. He served his country proudly in the United States Army serving during the Korean War. Douglas visited Atlanta since the early 1940s and permanently moved here in 1997, formerly of Rockwood. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockwood and Jesus The Good Shepherd in Atlanta. He was also the VFW Commander for the VFW Post 9489 in Atlanta. Doug enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid deer hunter. Above everything, he enjoyed the time that was spent with his family and friends and will be dearly missed. He is survived by sons, Dennis (Robin) Penn of Carlton; David Penn of Atlanta; Mike (Cheryl) Penn of Atlanta; Tim Penn of Bowling Green, Kentucky; Doug Penn of Rockwood; grandchildren, Dennis Jr; Andrea; Jennifer; Janette; Julie; Vanessa; Krista; TJ; Buddy; Joey; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren on the way; and sister, Betty Sue DeLeon of Rockwood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Pearl Penn; wife, Vera Amadea; sister, Mary Lou Penn; in-laws, Romolo and Dosalina Baldoni; and great-grandson, Vance David Penn. Funeral services for Mr. Penn will take place at 10:00AM on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the Jesus The Good Shepherd Catholic Church; Atlanta, Michigan; Fr. Mike Conner officiating. Visitation will take place at Green Funeral Home, Atlanta on Monday, October 5, 2015 from 12:00PM until 6:00PM with a rosary service beginning at 6:00PM. Internment will take place at Michigan Memorial Gardens; Flat Rock.
