Dorothy Ellen Barr Dorothy Ellen Barr, 93, of Atlanta, MI, passed away on February 8, 2013 at her residence. She was born on December 18, 1919 to James and Zelda (McIntire) Harwood in Loud Twp, MI. She was born and raised here, returning home back in 2001 from Mason, MI. She was a teacher for many years, having first earned a degree from County Normal, then going on to earn her Bachelor's Degree. She taught at country schools in the Charlotte and Potterville areas, before teaching 6th grade at Jefferson School in Mason, MI. She was a member of Big Rock Congregational Church in Atlanta. Dorothy enjoyed china painting and ceramics, as well as crocheting and embroidery. She was an avid gardener, especially loving her roses. She also enjoyed watching the birds outside. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Theila Heinbokel of Atlanta, MI, and Valerie (Jim) Briley of Lecanto, FL; sons, Douglas Ferguson of Brooksville, FL and Bryan (Terri) Ferguson of Bailington, AL; 13 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; sister, June Jevizian of Haslett, MI; and a brother, Velbert Harwood of Atlanta, MI. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Bryce Ferguson and Donavon Barr. Funeral services for Mrs. Barr will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Big Rock Congregational Church, Pastor Keith Jones officiating. Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the church and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
