Donald Smith

Mr. Donald Verne Smith, 91 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully on October 17, 2019 at MediLodge of Alpena. He was born in Toledo, Ohio to the late, Walter and Anna (Baumberger) Smith on March 31, 1928. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy Reserves. On October 10, 1953 in Wyandotte, Michigan he married his wife, Joan (Roehrig) Smith and together the couple celebrated 66 years of marriage before his passing. They have both resided in Atlanta at Canada Creek Ranch since July of 1978. Donald was a member of the Masons in Lincoln Park. He enjoyed working on cars and being outdoors; camping, hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He loved music, played the accordion, and enjoyed to sing and dance. Above all, he valued his time spent with family and friends and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Smith of Atlanta; daughters, Linda Ferguson; Beth (Dale) James both of Atlanta; granddaughters, Maggie and Marie; great-granddaughter, Mia; sister, Lamora Riddell of South Boardman; and sister-in-law, Marlene (Dale) Ledwick of Southgate. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Anna Smith; and sister, Mildred.

As were his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial held in celebration of his life at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the Canada Creek Ranch House, Pastor David Tuggle officiating. A luncheon will follow services.
