Donald Robinson

Donald Duane Robinson Mr. Donald Duane Robinson, 83 of Hillman, Michigan died peacefully on the morning of April 13, 2017 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born to the late, Douglas and Lucy (English) Robinson on June 15, 1933 in Caro, Michigan. As a member of the Merchant Marine he sailed on the Great Lakes for Huron Portland Cement from 1949 until being drafted into the Army in 1953. He served his country proudly from April 7, 1953 until being honorably discharged on April 22, 1955. While in the Army, he served fourteen months in Korea with "A" Battery 63rd Field Artillery as an operator and Intelligence Specialist. He married his loving wife, Violet (Domke) Robinson on August 18, 1953 in Alpena and together the couple celebrated 63 years of marriage before his passing. After returning from the war, Donald held numerous jobs including sailing with the Merchant Marines, working as an Underground Coal Miner in Wyoming, as a welder for Bakers Enterprise of Alpena, and also with Thunder Bay Manufacturing. He was also a life long member of the VFW. When Donald wasn't working, he loved to hunt and fish. He was a people person who would strike up a conversation with anybody at anytime. He especially loved the time spent with his family and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Violet Robinson of Hillman; children, Tamyra (Verne) Bates of Hillman; Dean (Jackie) Robinson of Hillman; Denise (Jeff) Safford of Hillman; Todd (Sandy) Robinson of Hillman; Burt Robinson of Watford City, North Dakota; sister, Mary Ann (Mike) McConnell of Hillman; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Lucy Robinson; and brother, Kenneth Robinson. In celebration of his life a graveside service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Hillman Rust Township Cemetery; Hillman; Pastor Jason Mandley officiating.
