Mr. Deloyce "Lee" Brooks, 92 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord on September 15, 2019. He was born in Kalkaska, Michigan on April 29, 1927 to the late, Ruben and Mabel (Mogg) Brooks. He served his country proudly in the United States Coast Guard, before joining the United States Army during both World War II and the Korean War. He married his wife, Vonda Brooks, in Grayling, Michigan on August 2, 1948 and together the couple celebrated 62 years of marriage before Vonda's passing in 2010. Formerly of St. Johns, Michigan the couple resided in Atlanta for the last 25 years. Lee was a finish carpenter by trade, and then the owner and operator of Central Michigan Lumber in St Johns, Michigan, Lee loved his sawmill and enjoyed wood working. He built many cedar chests for family and friends. He had a passion for traveling and spent many winters in Mexico and Arizona with his wife Vonda. He also spent a number of years gold mining in Alaska. He built a hunting cabin north of Atlanta that he loved spending time at. He was an avid fisherman and hunter when he was able. He was a member of the Atlanta Eagles Post 4077 and the Masonic Lodge in Lansing. He loved to socialize with friends. He will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Richard) Wallis of Trout Lake; Peggy Howard of St. John's; Mary (Tony Burch) Brooks of Atlanta; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Gwen Akers of Brooksville, Florida; June Finch of Dade City, Florida; Silva (Virgil) Kauffman of Atlanta; Faye Stevens of Zephyr Hills, Florida; and special friend, Pearl Carsey of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Mabel Brooks; wife, Vonda; grandson, Kevin Wallis; son-in-law, Dale Howard; brothers, Alden and Stuart; and sister, Marilyn Finch.
Funeral services for Mr. Brooks will take place at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Green Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until time of service.
