David Darwin Diehl Mr. David Darwin Diehl, 74 of Lewiston, Michigan died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on October 7, 2015 under the care of Hospice after being diagnosed with cancer. He was born in Flint, Michigan to the late, Frank and Julia (Carpenter) Diehl on October 22, 1940. He married his wife, Marlene (Huffman) Diehl on June 15, 1985 in Pinckney, Michigan and together the couple celebrated 30 years of marriage before his passing. David worked for General Motors at the Willow Run Plant in Ypsilanti as a glass analyst for 30 years before retiring. He and his wife moved from Pinckney to Lewiston twenty five years ago. David was a "jack of all trades" and was skilled and resourceful in many things. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to smoke fish and make jerky for his family to enjoy. He was a gardener and could often be found canning as well as spending time with wildlife. He raised baby deer, raccoons, squirrels, and turkey and was known to his family as "Dr. Dolittle." David was a skilled carpenter and built his house as well as ran the kitchen as a wonderful cook. He liked boating and would often take his grandkids out with him fishing. No matter what he was doing, family was important to David and he cherished the time he spent with them. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Diehl of Lewiston; children, Victoria (Joe) Drew of Ypsilanti; Daniel Diehl of Ypsilanti; Wendy (Jason) Dembny of Belleville; Anthony Caroen of Pinckney; Amanda (Clint) Kakkuri of Ishpeming; grandchildren, Chirstie; Charles; Derek; Zachary; Grace; Keyes; Kennedy; Morgan; Asa; and Brayden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Julia Diehl; best friend, Danny Stratton; brother, Warren; and sister, Hope. As were his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial held in celebration of his life at 1:00PM on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the American Legion Post 198; Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary at 3060 Mantz St, Lewiston, MI 49756, for breast cancer awareness.
