Col James Brown USAF Ret Col James Brown USAF Ret, 88, of Lewiston, passed away on September 17, 2009 at Aspen Ridge Assisted Living in Gaylord. He was born on April 27, 1921 to Roy and Clara (Hooper) Brown in Detroit, MI. He married Brenice Talley on September 13, 1947 in Lewiston, MI. James retired as a Colonel from the US Air Force, where he served as a pilot for 30+ yrs. After WWII he owned and operated Twin Lakes Tavern with his father until he returned to the Air Force. He and Brenice were the first couple married in the old St Francis Church. He was a member of the Lewiston VFW and American Legion, and a past member of the Lewiston Lions. He enjoyed woodworking, boating, and traveling in their motor home. James is survived by his wife, Brenice; son, James (Lori) Brown of Charlevoix, MI; daughters, Susan (Chalmers) Weber of Cheboygan, MI, and Nancy Brown of Pleasant Ridge, MI; grandchildren, Denise, Diane, Landon, and Michael; and great grandchildren, Emily, Lena, and Robert. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Holder. Funeral services with full United States Air Force honors were held on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in Lewiston, MI, Deacon Art LoVetere officiating. Memorials have been suggested to Hospice of MI, Gaylord, MI.
