Mrs. Carolyn Bentley Kemp was born on June 5, 1937 in Atlanta, Michigan and died on December 23, 2021 at the age of 84 in Hillman, Michigan. Her parents were Earl and Mabel E. Wicks Bentley. She married Johnie D. Kemp on December 20, 1958 in the Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church. She graduated from Hillman High School in 1955 and then County Normal in 1956. After County Normal she taught in a one room school for almost three years. Carolyn received her BA Degree from Michigan State University and a Master’s plus 30 hours from Oakland University. She taught first, second, and third grades in the Carman-Ainsworth School District in Flint and retired from there in 1991. She and her husband moved back to Pleasant Valley after retirement. Her greatest past time was traveling and genealogy. Looking for our roots to us to many places. Another great love was going to Bluegrass festivals.
Her husband, Johnie preceded her in death in 2020. She is survived by two sons, Marc (Jeannie) Kemp and Kurt (Laura) Kemp; one sister, Loraine Becker; four grandchildren; Cory Gibbons, Cameron, Trinity, and Logan Kemp.
At her request, cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held in celebration of her life in the Spring of 2022 with a graveside service at Hillman Rust Township Cemetery. If you wish to make a tribute to Carolyn, you may do so to Hospice of Michigan, 145 N. State Ave, Alpena, Michigan 49707.
