Calvin August Kolp Calvin August Kolp, 87 of Vienna Twp, MI, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on July 25, 2013 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey. He was born on August 6, 1925 to August and Angeline (Marchand) Kolp in Detroit, MI. He married the former Carol Tolliver on January 10, 1955 in Ohio. Calvin served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS New Mexico during World War II. His ship sailed into Tokoyo Bay for the signing of the surrender of Japan, ending WW II. He has lived on Gaylanta Lake since 1986, having had a cottage there for over 30 years prior to that. He was a member of the American Veterans in St Clair Shores, MI, the American Legion in Spring Hill, FL, the Atlanta Eagles 4077, and the Lewiston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6335. He worked for 35 years for Michigan Bell as a PBX installer. Cal enjoyed traveling, fishing on Gaylanta Lake, hunting pheasant, rabbit, and deer. He was also an old car buff. Cal enjoyed socializing with friends, and was a "Family Man", truly enjoying time spent with his family.
Calvin is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Cal (Casey) Kolp and David Kolp both of Macomb, MI; grandchildren David, Kristen, Deanna, and Jerry; and sister, Lyle Duadlin of Sterling Heights, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Angeline, and brother, Kenneth.
Funeral services for Mr. Kolp will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, July 29, 2013 at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Lewiston, MI, Fr. Santiago Hoyumpa officiating. Visitation will take place on Monday from 3-8 PM at the Green Funeral Home, Lewiston, and again on Tuesday at the Church from 10:00 AM until time of service. Interment will take place at Briley Twp Cemetery, Atlanta, MI.
