Burdette Porter

Burdette LaMar Porter Mr. Burdette LaMar Porter passed away on January 9, 2019. He was born February 22, 1938 to Willard and Whilemina (Minnie Middaugh) Porter in his grandparents farmhouse in Ocqueoc, Michigan. He married Karen Farrier October 29, 1960 in Hillman, Michigan. Burdette was an electrical journeyman substation technician and foreman, working for many electrical contractors. In 1956 he joined the IBEW Local 876 and was a member until his death. In May 1978 he graduated from gunsmith school and owned and operated Porter's Gunshop for eighteen years. After retirement Burdette worked for the DNR as a temp for nine years, two years in wildlife and seven years in forestry divisions. He loved flying his Piper airplane, going to Canada fishing and grouse hunting with his German shorthair pointers. He founded the Montmorency Pistol Club and was a member and competitor for many years. He was a member of the NRA and Lincoln Hunting Club. It was well known that if anyone wanted something fixed you just told Burdette it could not be done and he always came up with a solution.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Porter of Hillman; sons, Lonnie Porter of Montana; Todd Porter of Atlanta; grandchildren, Megan, Michael, Wm. Trevor and Daniel; and great-granddaughter, Amelia. Burdette was proceeded in death by his parents, Willard and Whilemina; sister, Marlena; and daughter-in-law, Tionne. Funeral services for Mr. Porter will take place on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Green Funeral Home, Hillman.

Visitation will take place on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials to Elk County Animal Shelter, Atlanta.
