Bud Teets Bud Teets, 89, of Atlanta, MI, passed away on January 6, 2011 at his residence. He was born on January 10, 1921 to Alfred and Nettie (Dunn) Teets in Avery Twp, MI. He married the former Hazel McMurphy on June 30, 1939 in Gaylord, MI. Bud has lived in Atlanta most of his life. As a teen he took over his father's mail route before going to work for Edgar Doty at the lumber yard, and then to the Gulf Station in Atlanta until joining the US Army during WWII. When he got back from the service, Bud went to work for Hugh Mulholland at the Ford Sales and Standard Oil Gas Station, before becoming a Standard Oil Agent retiring from there 25 years later. He was a member of the Atlanta Congregational Church, a charter member of the Atlanta VFW Post 9489, the Masonic Lodge #516, Northern Michigan Shriners, and the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the Lewiston State Bank board for 30 years. Bud always enjoyed his big garden and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and Hazel enjoyed traveling all over the world together. He always had a general interest in the Atlanta community. Above all else, Bud loved to be with his family and friends. Bud is survived by his wife, Hazel; sons, Roger (Samie) Teets of Atlanta, MI, and Robert (Sandy) Teets of Durand, WI; grandchildren, Tammie (Gregg) Hettel of Dexter, MI, and Tighe Teets of Carpio, ND; step grandsons, Kelly (Anna) Schwartz of Charlotte, NC, and Michael Schwartz of Atlanta, MI; great grandchildren, Laine, Kylie, and Logan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Alfred (Dora) Teets; and 5 sisters, Mildred (Ted) Wolfesburger, Edna (Bill) Edwards, Madge (Jim) Edwards, Bina (Garnet) House, and Iva (Ed) White. Funeral services for Mr. Teets were held on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Green Funeral Home, Atlanta, MI, Pastor Ginny Titus officiating. Visitation hours were held on Sunday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home, with Masonic services held at 7:30 PM. Interment will take place at Briley Twp Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials to Hospice of Michigan, Alpena, the Atlanta Congregational Church, or to the Atlanta Masonic Lodge #516.
