Betty Jean Goebel Betty Jean Goebel, 73, of Hillman, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Alpena Regional Medical Center. She was born on May 23, 1934 to Irwin and Mabel (Townsen) Boetticher in Adena, Ohio. She married Marlin Goebel on June 11, 1960 at Emanual Lutheran Church in Alpena, MI. She spent most of her adult life in the Hillman area. Jean taught school at Alpena Community Schools for a few years, and substitute taught the elementary and special education classes at Hillman Schools for many years. She was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hillman. She was very active at church, serving as the organist, Sunday school teacher, secretary of the womens group, and also the editor of the Foreign Mission News. At one time, she was also the personal secretary for Orville Redenbacher. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, doing cross stitch, reading, and photography. She enjoyed watching sports on television and also going to her grandchildrens events. She loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren. Jean is survived by her husband, Marlin, of Hillman, MI; sons, Kurt (Pam) of Danvers, IL, Keith (Michelle) of Holt, MI, and Kory (Lisa) of Hillman, MI; daughter, Kathy (Mike) Huxford of Allenton, MI; 14 grandchildren; and her mother, Mabel Boetticher of Hillman, MI. Funeral services for Mrs Goebel will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, at 11 a.m., Pastor Dale Jaech officiating. Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. at the church. Arrangements were entrusted to the Green Funeral Home, Hillman, MI. Memorials have been suggested to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the Goebel family to be given to charities of their choice.
