Betty Elaine Ames Mrs. Betty Elaine Ames, 86 of Lewiston, Michigan died peacefully at her home on the early morning of February 19, 2016. She was born in Cadillac, Michigan to the late, Robert and Delphina (Hector) Denzel on April 7, 1929. She married her husband, Charles Ames on January 1, 1948 in Cadillac and together the couple celebrated 68 years of marriage before her passing. Betty and Charles moved to Lewiston in 1977 where together they owned Ames Grocery Stores for 25 years. They opened and operated other stores since 1963 in Mio, Roscommon, Atlanta, and Lewiston. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and had a variety of hobbies of which included; trips to the casino, listening to the Tigers play on the radio, fishing, horseback riding, and making handmade greeting cards for family and friends. Most importantly, she enjoyed family gatherings and time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty will be dearly missed. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Ames of Lewiston; sons, Ken (Theresa) Ames of Clare; Darrell (Betty) Ames of Byron Center; Mike (Debbie) Ames of Mio; Brian (Luella) Ames of Roscommon; daughter, Janice (Bruce) Willett of Roscommon; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and sister, Beatrice Budnick of Owensboro, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Delphina Denzel; brother, Richard Denzel; sister, Mildred Sandelius and great-granddaughter, Paige Ames. A memorial service will be held in celebration of Betty's life at 2:00PM on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church; Lewiston; Pastor Steven Thiel officiating. Visitation will take place at 1:00PM until time of service. The family has suggested memorials to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Youth Group.
